Prayers for decision-making

Prayers for guidance when the way is not clear.

The Christian tradition has always understood prayer as central to discernment, the work of figuring out what to do when more than one path is open. The prayers gathered here are the tradition's main prayers for guidance: prayers asking for wisdom, for the right judgment, for the grace to see what is genuinely God's will rather than what the petitioner privately wants it to be. They include the Anglican prayer for right judgment, the Methodist Covenant Prayer of complete surrender, the Serenity Prayer, and Augustine's prayer for self-knowledge. They are not magic. They are the long discipline of bringing real decisions into the presence of God.
